At the more casual end of the spectrum is a beach house with incomparable views on the Maryland shore. The predominantly subtle palette of beiges and blues takes it’s cue from the water and sand at the seaside. Accents of sea shells and coral , such as the whimiscal shell chandelier in the master sitting room , help enhance the informal interior.

A monochromatic color scheme in soft neutrals can create a harmonious and unifying effect, or it can look as though you just couldn’t commit to a color. I’m excited about this plan for a monochromatic scheme that will be anything but boring.

How to create interest without adding color? First, vary the color values for contrast. We’ve added bright whites, clean blacks, and a range of greys from silvery light to deep.

Add varying textures and sheens. Use ultra-strong textures, like our super cool shaggy rug with white and silver accents. Contrast the rough textures of the rugs with smooth and shiny, as in the polished nickel lamp, the shiny glass tv unit, and the simple sculptural silver cubes.

Add eye-catching detail. The shiny nickel nailhead on the black leather ottomans are like adding jewelry to an outfit. Just the right amount of bling.

Change up styles and shapes. The highly ornate carving on the zebra chair contrasts with the slim, sleek line of the black bookcases.

One strong pattern that zebra chair again, enlivens a room filled with solid neutrals. The finishing touch…a graphic geometric mirror in an unexpected shape. Although, we might not be quite finished yet…a few touches of a brilliant red in the accessories and artwork perhaps?

Here is a list of five areas to considered:

• Library: The fist version is in the library. Upholstered in menswear mohair and surrounded by a bookcase. This is the ultimate place to enjoy a good book.
• Family room: The second concept is to place it in a family room. In a pair, flanking a fireplace and done in leather. What a warm spot to enjoy the fire on a cold day.
• Bedroom: A perfect size for a niche in a bedroom. Covered it in soft cotton chenille for a cozy look. Grab a mohair throw and you would have a great your new place to nap.
• Living room: I can see it placed in the living room. The sofa would be dressed in an elegant silk fabric. With a pair of neoclassic style chairs facing it. What a perfect setting for enjoying cocktails with your guest.
• Dining Room: For a new twist use it in the dinning room. I would use it as banquette for decadent dining, maybe upholstered in a pattern the better to hide spills.

We have one here at Theodores that has just came into our store with its soft seat and lots of pillows it is so wonderfully comfortable I can be found hiding in it regularly. I am seriously taken with this sofa.
